Reverence and Revelation.

The first seventeen years of Medley's life were steeped in the Catholic Church, shaped by her Filipino upbringing in the small coastal town of Waitara in Aotearoa, New Zealand.

Immersing herself in the rich tapestry of Catholic history and its nuanced rituals has been both a journey of discovery and a form of reconciliation. Her paintings are a dialogue with her past, an attempt to understand and articulate the complexities of growing up within a faith that is both deeply personal and widely communal.

Medley seeks to create a dialogue between the sacred and the secular, the traditional and the modern. The motifs and symbols that once held deep spiritual significance in her heritage are reimagined on canvas, allowing her to reconcile her past with her present.

Her work invites viewers into a dialogue that defies conventional boundaries, encouraging contemplation of the interconnectedness of human experiences. Each painting bridges the past and the present, urging viewers to reconsider preconceived notions and appreciate the enduring significance of both ancient traditions and contemporary expressions. Through her art, Medley invites an embrace of the profound beauty in the convergence of time-honored practices and modern creativity, challenging us to see the artistry within the seemingly mundane and overlooked aspects of our cultural heritage.
